Pecos, Texas!

I had heard my wife talk about the Dairy Mart and its famous hamburgers. I was surprised at the different hamburgers they sold there. I had to order the Jumbo Frito Burger. When I ask the hop girl what it contained she looked at me like I was the only person on earth who had never ordered a Jumbo Frito Burger. My wife ordered a Jalapeno Burger and a milk shake. They were very good!

We drove to the Dairy Mart and parked under the canopy. It was about 100 degrees in the sun and about 98 in the shade. The food was great, but they don't sell diet anything. If you are ever in Pecos, you've got to eat at the Dairy Mart! We found this old Southern Pacific Mechanics building in the 100 blk of Elm. This is where they use to fix the railroad cars. It would make a nice night club if it was fixed up. The metal stairs are still in good condition and we were able to climb all the way to the third level. It is kind of spooky there. My wife took me by this house on W. 7th St. Her cousins use to live here and this is where she hung out as a teenager. Making the trip back to Barstow was too much on the weekends, so Saturday nights were spent in Pecos. This is the Home of the Eagles! Ishmael, Elfie (my wife)and Bertha posed infront of the Eagle Stadium. Not much has changed. Brings back memories?
My wife was talking about Rocket Park and I asked her why they called it that. She told me there was a rocket there. I had to see it! Well not what I had pictured, but it is a rocket. Our last stop was at the center of entertainment in Pecos! The State Theater. It was reopened just recently and shows movies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was closed in the mid 70's. If anyone knows more history on this buildings send me an E-mail and I will post it for others to read.
