Old Barstow

Downtown Barstow

Pictures from 1910

While visiting My uncle in Wicket, he showed me some pictures he had of Barstow. He had bought a photo albumn at a garage sale because it had some pictures of old Barstow. Most of these are from 1910, some may be older.

This a a baptismal service being performed in the creek that runs through Barstow. In the background you can see the original courthouse that stood at the end of Main St. When I was growing up the library was located in the only part left of this building.

I am not too sure where this is from but it was somewhere near Barstow.

In 1910 the Pecos River broke out of its banks and flooded the flat lands near Barstow. This started the decline of the area as an agricultural community.

Water rushing out of the Pecos River.

It doesn't look like much of a flood, but because the land is so flat the flooding was very extensive. You can see in the background that there are no hills or any type of high ground. No trees either.

Cotton fields, they were still all over the place when I was growing up.

Old Barstow High School

Any one know when this school existed?

Old Post Cards and Pictures

Yes, at one time there were postcards of the town of Barstow.

Comments

This are some other old photos. I have less info on this ones.

I found this picture on the internet. It is of the original Courthouse. Much of this building has been destroyed. When I was growing up the town library was located on the remaining portion of the building.

I can't remember where this house is located in Barstow.

Family moving in or moving out.

If you have any info or question about the pictures

E-mail me!! ELFIE

I know this ones!

this is the gin that was located behind Bustillo's Gas Station. Only it's skeleton is left.I still remember when it was in use.

I think this was the Water Dept. Officer in downtown Barstow.

The Gas Station!

This was know as the Bustillo's Gas Station when I was growing up. Jose Bustillo use to own it. This was the gas station located on the highway to leads to Pecos. I don't know when this picture was taken, though.

Thanks for stopping by. Some of this pictures were dated and signed by the photographer. I am very glad my uncle bought them and kept them. He has taken very good care of them. My husband photographed them with his digital camera, that's how I have copies.
