We found out that the Peņas came to Barstow, Tx. from Grandfalls, Tx. Grandfalls is about an hour drive southeast of Barstow. Luis Peņa and Maria Chaves lived in Grandfalls before buying a ranch outside of Barstow in the 1890's. These are some of our relatives that are buried in Barstow's Spanish Cemetary. The background shows the fence that segregated the cemetary. The westside was known as the Spanish Cemetary and the eastside was the anglo cemetary.

Luis Peņa moved from
Grandfalls, TX, to Barstow in the 1890's.
He
bought a farm on the outskirts of the new town of Barstow. Luis
was married to Maria Chaves
.
Their children were Candelario, Canuta, Simona, and Bernardo
.
Bernardo was married to Elena Evaro
.
Simona's head stone is found toward the middle of the cemetary
.
My mother's grave is just east of the storage shed. Her maiden
name was Hinojos
.
Tia Juanita's husband was Tiburcio Muņiz.
He
was always called "Matilde" and that is shown on his
headstone. Refugia Peņa Gomez
was Candelario's daughter. She was my father's cousin and was
known as "Cuca". Canuta was my Dad's aunt
.
I believe Pablo was Candelario's son.
If this is not right, send me an email! This is Tia Juanita's
son, Vidal Muņiz.
He died as an infant. Federico was Refugia's son
.
These relatives were from Elena's side of the family. Leonides
was her brother
and
Quirino was her cousin. This are some of the Peņas buried in the
Barstow Spanish Cemetary. If you have more information about
other relatives buried there or in other area cemetaries let me
know. I will try and include them on our site.
These are relatives on my Mom's
side of the family, the Hinojos. My grandmother was Petra Garcia.
She
was married to
Secundino Hinojos. Francisca was my mother's aunt

She was married to one of my mom's uncles. My mom's other uncle
